Sophie Charlene Akland Monk (born 14 December 1979) is an English-Australian
 pop singer, actress and model

Biography

Bardot
Main article: Bardot (band)

Monk's professional music career began in 1999 when she responded to an advertisement at the recommendation of her mother which requested girls with vocal and dance experience. The advertisement was for the Australian television series, Popstars, a TV talent show which aimed to create a successful new girl group. Monk, who has been trained in classical and pop singing and has been performing since she was eight years old, drove all night to audition. In one audition, she performed a rendition of Marilyn Monroe's famous "Happy Birthday, Mr. President", working on her previous experience as a Monroe impersonator at Warner Bros. Movie World. After numerous rounds of singing and dancing workshops, Monk was selected as a member of the group, which was named Bardot.

Bardot became the first Australian act to debut at the #1 position with both its debut single, "Poison", and self-titled debut album. Further singles "I Should've Never Let You Go" and "These Days" followed and in August, the group embarked on its first national tour. Bardot performed at the 2000 ARIA Awards at which they were nominated in three categories.

In July 2001, the group released "ASAP", the first single from their second album. Bardot now had more control over their music and image. The single peaked Top 5, as did follow-up single, "I Need Somebody", their most successful single since "Poison". The second album, Play It Like That debuted at #16, achieving gold status. Monk co-wrote the album track "Feel Right" with fellow bandmate Sally Polihronas. In 2002, final single, "Love Will Find A Way" completed Bardot's string of consecutive Top 20 hits and the group embarked on its second national tour. In May, the group disbanded.

Solo music career

Soon after Bardot's split, Monk began work on her solo career, re-signing a solo contract with Warner Music. She travelled overseas to work with some well-known producers including hit maker Rob Davis (famous for co-writing Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head") and this resulted in two tracks, "Inside Outside", Monk's debut solo single and the album track "Don't Push It". Sophie performed her new single for the very first time in September on the grand final edition of the AFL Footy Show at Rod Laver Arena. "Inside Outside" was released 28 October 2002 and after a week of busy promotion, debuted in the Top 5, spending a total of 12 weeks in the ARIA Top 50, receiving gold status. Monk also co-wrote the B-side "Luv Me" (in dedication to her long-term boyfriend of the time) with producer Shane Monopoly. Adding to her growing profile was her role as model and spokesperson for Expozay Swimwear. Second single, "Get The Music On", became another Top 10 hit, spending 10 weeks in the Top 50. The single's B-side "Shake" was also co-written by her.

In May 2003, Monk released her debut solo album, Calendar Girl, which surprised many by mixing contemporary pop-dance and funk with classical opera interludes, Monk having been classically trained growing up. Despite heavy promotion including TV advertising and in store appearances, the album debuted at #35 which was seen as a disappointing result. The album's final single, the ballad "One Breath Away", was re-recorded and mixed for single release, peaking at #23 in July, spending only 9 weeks in the Top 100. Despite beginning work on new material in early 2004, including songs with dance act Rogue Traders, Monk parted ways with Warner Music. The material created during these sessions has yet to surface.

Acting career

Sophie Monk has since established herself in Hollywood. Although most of her roles have been reasonably small, she did play Marilyn Monroe for a high-budget telemovie The Mystery Of Natalie Wood (2004) and starred in the music video "Always" for rock group blink-182.

In February 2006, she starred in her debut feature role as the flirtatious and seductive 'best man' Andy in the spoof comedy Date Movie. A scene in the film sees Monk act out a parody of the infamous Paris Hilton burger advertisement, somewhat ironic now since her ex-fiancee started dating Hilton in 2008.

June 2006 saw the release of the Adam Sandler film Click, a story about a universal remote control. The film debuted at #1 on both the US and Australian box office charts. Monk plays a small role in this film; Stacey, David Hasselhoff's flirtatious, bimbo secretary who she described in an interview as "... kind of a floozy that kind of just works there because she gets around a bit. Another serious character."

In 2007 she appeared in HBO's Entourage episode "The Day Fuckers", which included a sex scene with Vincent Chase.

Also in 2007, Monk played the role of Cynthia Rose in the dark comedy Sex and Death 101, written and directed by Daniel Waters. The film stars fellow Australian actor Simon Baker, and Winona Ryder, and received a straight-to-DVD release on 5 March 2008.

In 2009, Sophie Monk is due to appear in a total of 6 films:

Firstly, in the upcoming Warner Bros. comedy Spring Breakdown she plays "Mason Masters". Monk describes her character as "... the head of the evil girls. I'm like the evil bitch that everyone wants to be like and they all end up hating her." She has confirmed that she is recording three songs for the film Spring Breakdown and that one of the songs "Candy" will be released as a single to coincide with the film's release. She is also set to star in a similarly named comedy titled Spring Break '83 in which she plays the character Brittany.

Also in 2009, Monk will appear in the horror film Murder World alongside Scout Taylor-Compton, as well as the films The Hills Run Red, Hard Breakers and The Legend of Awesomest Maximus.

Other activities
Monk has also appeared in an array of commercials and advertisements including Primus Telecom, Diet Vanilla Coke, LG Mobile and 3 Telecommunications. Monk was also the face for the launch of the Biofit Bra by Pleasure State, for which she went on a promotional press tour of Australia. Monk recorded an update of Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It" for the promotion, and a music-video style commercial to accompany it was played throughout Myer stores in Australia. The cover was produced by Benji Madden, Monk's fiancee at the time, and was released as a promo single in Myer stores.

Monk also a co-presenter with Perez Hilton at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards in Sydney. Monk also hosted the 2007 AFI Awards, but was heavily criticized for not handling the gig well.

Monk appeared in a series of reality television styled commercials for MTV to help promote Snoop Dogg for Australian Citizenship. The humorous commercials, that were shot in Bondi Beach, featured Monk living with Snoop and trying to help him adjust to an Australian way of life. His constant cussing at inappropriate times as well as not holding back on conversations of a sexual nature often put him in an awkward position, particularly in one that features Monk's parents coming to visit for dinner.

In August 2008 she was photographed eating KFC fast-food, despite previously producing several anti-animal cruelty ads and attacking people who eat KFC because of animal-cruelty

Monk was born in England, but her parents moved to Australia's Gold Coast in Queensland. She also spent time at Somerset College and MacGregor State High School . Whilst at MacGregor State High School, she was a School Captain in her senior year (1997), and was enlisted in the school's CAD (Center of Artistic Development) Program. Prior to, during and after her experience as a member of Popstars, Monk dated Chris Cooper from Tasmania, with whom she split shortly before moving to the United States.

Monk has had a tabloid-reported private life, including a period dating actor Jude Law. Monk started dating Benji Madden in 2006, but in January 2008, media outlets reported that the couple had split up. Monk had returned to Australia alone, almost a year to the day since Madden proposed. On , 2008 it was officially announced by Monk's Sydney agent, Yoon Kim, that "Sophie and Benji have officially split. The decision was mutual and they remain amicable." Three months later, Monk was linked to Ryan Seacrest.

Monk is vegetarian.

Sophie Monk - She is so Hot, Fire Woman

Australian pop singer, actress, occasional model

Sophie Monk

Sophie Monk facts

Sophie was born in England but grew up in Queensland, Australia.
You can find her sex scene with Vincent Chase in the Entourage episode "The Day Fuckers".
Monk once earned her bread as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator at Warner Bros. Movie World.
She's also appeared in the video to Blink-182's song "Always".

Full name: Sophie Charlene Akland Monk
    Birth: December 14, 1979
    Birth in England
    Occupation: Singer, Actress
Sophie Monk is an singer-turned-actress by trade, but her most popular work since winning Australian reality TV show Popstars in 1999 has focused on how she wears her bikinis. The answer, as anyone who saw 2006’s critically-slaughtered Date Movie will testify, is brilliantly. Physically, she’s got a classic Baywatch look, leaving her employment opportunities gloriously open-ended. Watch this space.

    Biography:

The world has a lot to answer for. Ambiguous comment? Yes it is, but hear me out. Reality shows are flooding my TV set, some are real, some are "mockumentaries", some have "portions edited for comic purposes"
And at the end of the day, what do we have to show for it?
Anybody with a semi-functioning brain is able to reach for their 15 minutes of fame without having to work to hard for it; based on myvalue system, that's a great shame.
And this is opposed to the die-hard, out-of-work actors who slug it out for several years on the lucrative theatre restaurant circuit. And the weird thing is, these slacking nobodies who reach star status thanks to reality TV are making fools of themselves in the eye of the public just to get on the door list of one of these aforesaid restaurants!
Unless of course you are Australia's Sophie Monk.
Hailing from England in the early '80s, Sophie Charlene Akland Monk (or "Monkey Brains" as she is known to her friends) moved to the luxurious surrounds of tropical Queensland in Australia when she was but a small child.
As an ambitious 15-year-old she wrote in her diary that she wanted to have a hit album and single out by the year 2000. She also wrote that she was in love with Billy Tomkins from her year 8 English class and that Steve from Science class had the deadly disease "Boys Germs", but that is neither here nor there...
Success wasn't too far away for the girl who originally trained as an opera singer before being derailed from her classical path by a stint as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator at Warner Brothers Movie World ("Hollywood on the Gold Coast" to some, "That place where you can make a dodgy 1990's pop video for only $20 bucks" to others).
However, fate intervened once again when a new show began on Australia's Seven Network in 1999 called Popstars (based on the English program of the same name).
Immediately Sophie was an audience favourite with her bubbly attitude, blonde hair, sparkling blue eyes, lusciously thick lips and...obvious extra assets, the then 18 year old was quickly chosen to join the new music girl-group 'Bardot'.
The show's popularity was unprecedented at that point in time, pre Australian Idol or Anthony Callea, with the first 'Bardot' single "Poison" debuting at #1 in 2000 as did their self titled album.
The album racked up multi-platinum sales and fans across Australia, NZ and throughout Asia. However, as with all reality shows, fame was indeed fleeting. The follow-up "Play It Like That" which featured the singles "ASAP" and "I Need Somebody" attempted to rebirth the group as a tight four-piece, who in the short space of a year had gone from Industry Heavyweights to a Public Joke.

By early 2002, the group made the amicable decision to disband. However, Monk knew it wasn't over.
With a public profile and the advantage of "Not being the Red Head chick from Bardot" Sophie immediately threw herself into forging her own distinctively up-beat pop path. Just a matter of months after the break-up Sophie simultaneously launched her first solo single, the annoyingly catchy/pretty pop hit 'Inside Outside" and a modeling career as the face of Expozay swimwear.
She also scored a number of glossy magazine covers for the Australian editions of Cleo, Vogue and Marie Claire, which helped entrench the Sophie brand into the minds of easily impressionable 20- and 30-somethings across this wide brown land of ours.
However, Sophie's biggest hits were still to come...
Landing a role in one of the last ever Blink 182 film clips in 2004, Sophie's foot was firmly in the door of Hollywood. In 2006 she made her screen debut as "a hot blonde chick" Andy, in the comedy Date Movie. While the film is nothing short of terrible, the same couldn't be said for Sophie's stunning curves. Her appearance in tiny swimsuits set tongues wagging all throughout Hollywood and the world. I'll even admit after watching Date Movie, I was tempted to leave my boyfriend for an Ellen DeGeneres type of life with Sophie.
Sophie also appeared in the Adam Sandler flick Click (a role which she beat out serial movie tart, Carmen Electra, for), as well as releasing the album "Calender Girl" in 2006 which received some good press. InClick, Sophie appeared alongside such luminaries as Christopher Walken, Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale, Sean Austin and even the 'Hoff - David Hasselhoff.
So let it not be said that Reality TV is a complete waste of time. Having said that... let's have a minute of silence for the following Reality TV stars who have disappeared:
Scott Cain, The cast of "The Hot House", The muscled lady from Survivor 1 who said "Ta-pi-oh-ka", Chip and Reichan, Scandal'us, Vincent from BB3, Sarah Marie, Merlin, Miriam, The X Factor and the fat kid from Hey Dad. We miss you all.

Generally, the word ‘monk’ conjures up images of slightly unfashionable bald blokes warbling in the dark about a guy called Jesus who lives off his Dad’s fame, like Callum Best. At best, the word drags up long forgotten images of the dodgy fish courses at our sister’s wedding or that OCD detective show we used to watch instead of going to college. Thankfully, after a dodgy start, God, in all his infinite bearded glory, has delivered to us Sophie Monk, to right the aesthetic wrongs of her namesakes.

    Sophie Monk

Monk is an English-Australian pop singer, turned actress turned model turned beautiful beach dwelling ambassador of beach dwelling woman. Here she is on a beach doubtlessly unaware of the camera like a sexy Dr No remake.
    Sophie Monk

You might also recognise those finely toned legs from one of her awesomely named straight to DVD movies, Sex and Death 101, Spring Breakdown, creepy slasher porn The Hills Run Red or Monk’eying Around. We might have made one of those up.

Failing that, you might have caught her in the Adam Sandler comedy, Click, when you last let your girlfriend choose a DVD to watch. Or, alternatively, as the star of the brilliant Blink 182 video, Always, where she simultaneously spreads her beauty across three screens causing men everywhere to think, “This is exactly what it is like to be in a band…. must buy a guitar…now!” Which is exactly what we might not have done.
